MULTAN: The first case of coronavirus was identified in Multan after a man with symptoms of a deadly virus was admitted to Nishtar Hospital here on Friday.
Sources indicate that the coronavirus patient first traveled from China to Dubai and entered Karachi on January 21. He left for Multan after landing in Karachi, via Pakistan International Airline PK-332.
A patient whose identification is still unknown has moved to Nishtar Hospital after his condition has deteriorated.
Previously, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Health Dr. Zafar Mirza said the country lacks the facility to detect the deadly coronavirus.
Dr. Zafar Mirza claimed in a statement that samples of suspected cases will be sent to foreign laboratories for testing.
The SAPM indicated that samples would be sent to laboratories in three countries, including China and the Netherlands,
until coronavirus detection laboratories have been established in the country. He assured that the facility would be made available within two weeks.
Health officials fear that the transmission rate will increase as hundreds of millions of Chinese travel home and abroad during the week-long Lunar New Year holiday that begins on Saturday.
